We are getting excitedly close to Euphoria Music Festival 2017. Wondering who should make your schedule this year? The Inside Out Presents team is here to be your musical and spiritual guides.
Flamingosis’s expansive knowledge of genres and cutting styles makes him a modern day J Dilla — but 1000% funkier. He seamlessly interweaves R&B, soul, hip hop and funk like no one else in the game right now. My favorite album of his is Bright Moments, which makes me feel like I’m living in Miami in the 1980s — oddly specific and oddly wonderful.
“Who the fuck told you that Young Thugga Thugga don’t fuck up the beat?” No one, Young Thug, because you ALWAYS fuck up the beat. Young Thug is an enigma in pretty much every way possible. He kills the fashion game 10x more than A$AP Rocky ever dreamed of doing, he rarely does interviews — and when he does, he’s a man of few words — and he is adept at using his voice as an instrument. I can’t wait for this headliner!
I’m also stoked for Maddy O’Neal, Medasin, FKJ, Blunt Force and Capyac.
Pretty Lights Live Band
If you’ve never seen the Pretty Lights Live Band, then you haven’t seen Derek Vincent Smith operate at his fullest potential. The PL Live Band is an auditory and visual experience like no other that truthfully transcends the music styling of so many other top producers today. I’m counting down the days till I get to immerse myself in PL Live Band goodness.
The Disco Biscuits
The Disco Biscuits are some of the founding fathers of the jam-tronica genre and therefore they are kings in my book. While the vocals are a bit sub-par, the music production is absolutely on point.
The Funk Hunters
While I’ve never been able to see The Funk Hunters live, I hear that they put on quite the show and have stellar stage presence. I’m all about that funk. Gotta have that funk.
I SERIOUSLY cannot tell you how stoked I am that Poolside is on Euphoria’s lineup. Poolside was one of my top five favorite musical finds of 2016 and I can’t wait to bliss out to this set. They’re chill wave indie rock and it’s the perfect music for hanging out, vibing out and going with the flow. If you haven’t heard of Poolside before, I urge you to check them out.
This will be my first year at Euphoria and while I’m very excited to see many of the artists on the lineup, I am definitely most stoked to see Moby. I’ve been listening to him since I was 14 years old. He is one of the godfathers of electronic music, bringing that classic techno and breakbeat style. It’s really refreshing to see an icon like Moby on this lineup in a time where electronic musicians and the scene itself have forgotten where their roots. Back in the 90’s, Moby was at the forefront of techno in the UK and the U.S., bringing this new and fresh style of music to millions of ears. I mean let’s be serious, who doesn’t remember the song “Porcelain” or “Southside?!”
Euphoria has also amped up its camping big time and got rid of that “death walk” that everyone always dreaded. This year they have fly camping with tents that are hung from trees like hammocks and have really dialed in on what their fans are wanting – an experience to remember for years to come! I can’t wait.
